A shark attack is an assault on a human by any shark species. Around 80 times each year, almost every single person in this world is attacked by sharks. Although their relative frequency, many people still fear shark attacks simply because of their horror films and fictional serial attacks, like the Jersey shore shark attacks of 1916. This attack, while horrific, is actually a rare occurrence. The truth is that shark attacks occur to millions of people worldwide every single day.
The first thing that you should know when you hear about a shark attack is that there is no particular way that a shark will attack someone. If you are attacked by a shark, you will not die immediately, but you will probably experience some form of injury that may not be life threatening. Most attacks that people experience are caused by one of three reasons. Some people get struck by the shark's body, some are hit with an appendage of the shark, or the shark itself bites the person. If the shark is not killed right away, you are most likely going to experience swelling or bleeding of the area that was bitten. You may also experience nausea or dizziness, or even loss of consciousness.
There is one thing that you need to remember if you have an experience of a shark attack. Do not panic! It's not like you have been bitten by a poisonous snake. It's not like a scorpion has suddenly become a deadly poisonous spider. You don't die immediately. You will most likely survive and your body will eventually heal itself. However, the most important thing to do is to go straight to the hospital as soon as possible for treatment.
